Volunteer Information
Volunteers with Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks support the program in many different ways including:
- Membership on the Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks Steering Committee.
- Raising funds through finding sponsorships and fundraising activities.
- Assisting with Adaptive Sports Awareness Week, the CADS Festival and para-alpine races.
- Assisting or shadowing lessons provided by the Snow Sports School.
- Serving as a companion (ski buddy) to accompany and assist students to practice or “put on mileage” after a lesson.
- Accompanying guests with a disability who do not desire/require a formal lesson.
- Accompanying guests with a disability who rent equipment.
- Assisting students with a disability to participate in school sponsored programs.
Criteria for Adaptive Sports Volunteer Instructors:
- Active membership with the Disabled Skiers Association of British Columbia (DSABC) and the Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing (CADS). See www.disabledskiingbc.com
- RCMP Criminal Record Check.
- Minimum CADS Level 1 certification. (Volunteer assistants may accompany lessons to gain knowledge and experience before taking their CADS Level 1 Certification.)
- Complete the Sun Peaks Resort Corporation “Volunteer Agreement” found in the Employee Handbook.
Adaptive Sports Volunteer Privileges:
- Volunteer instructors who meet the criteria set out by the Sun Peaks Resort Corporation (SPRC) may be eligible for benefits outlined in the Sun Peaks Resort Corporation Employee Handbook.
Uniform:
- A limited number of Adaptive Sports uniforms are available to volunteer instructors.
- The uniform may not be worn when not working (i.e. While free skiing or après-ski).
- Name tags must be worn at all times when in uniform.
